Why Biomechanical Analysis Matters

For endurance athletes, even small inefficiencies in movement patterns can lead to significant energy wastage, performance limitations, and increased injury risk over time. Biomechanical analysis identifies these inefficiencies at their source.

Our advanced motion analysis techniques provide objective data about your movement patterns, allowing us to identify subtle issues that might not be visible to the naked eye. This scientific approach takes the guesswork out of technique correction.

Whether you're dealing with recurring injuries, seeking improved efficiency, or simply wanting to optimize your technique, our biomechanical analysis services provide actionable insights tailored to your unique physiology and goals.

Our Analysis Process

We use a systematic approach to provide you with comprehensive insights and practical solutions:

Initial Consultation

We begin by discussing your goals, injury history, training background, and specific concerns. This information helps us target our analysis to your unique situation.

01
Video Capture

Using high-speed cameras from multiple angles, we record your movement patterns while you run, cycle, or swim. For running, we use a treadmill and for cycling, we set up your bike on a trainer.

02
Detailed Analysis

Our specialists analyze the footage frame-by-frame using specialized software to measure joint angles, timing, movement patterns, and identify inefficiencies or potential injury risks.

03
Findings & Recommendations

We explain our findings using video playback and visual aids, helping you understand exactly what's happening in your technique and why it matters for performance and injury prevention.

Benefits of Biomechanical Analysis

Discover how our analysis services can transform your performance and training experience:

Improved Efficiency

Optimize your movement patterns to use less energy while maintaining or increasing speed, critical for endurance performance.

Injury Prevention

Identify and correct movement patterns that place excessive stress on joints, tendons, and muscles before they lead to injury.

Injury Rehabilitation

If you're recovering from an injury, analysis helps identify compensatory patterns that may be hindering recovery or risking re-injury.

Performance Breakthrough

Break through plateaus by addressing the technical limitations that may be holding back your performance potential.

Equipment Optimisation

Ensure your equipment (shoes, bike, etc.) is properly fitted and suited to your biomechanical needs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our biomechanical analysis services:

  • Biomechanical analysis is valuable for athletes of all levels. Beginners can establish proper technique from the start, avoiding development of bad habits. Intermediate athletes often use analysis to break through performance plateaus. Elite athletes use it to fine-tune their technique for maximum efficiency and performance. The service is particularly beneficial for anyone dealing with recurring injuries, experiencing pain during activity, or noticing asymmetries in their movement.

  • Please come dressed in form-fitting athletic clothing that allows clear visibility of your joints and movement patterns. For running analysis, bring the running shoes you typically train in. For cycling analysis, bring your bike if possible. Arrive well-rested without having done intense exercise in the 24 hours prior, as fatigue can affect your normal movement patterns. Be prepared to move at various intensities during the session.

  • Timeline for improvements varies depending on the extent of the changes needed and your consistency with the corrective exercises. Some athletes feel immediate benefits from simple adjustments during the session itself. For more substantial technique changes, expect a 4-8 week process of consciously implementing the new patterns. Neurological adaptation to new movement patterns typically takes consistent practice over time, but most clients report noticeable improvements within 2-3 weeks of following their corrective program.

  • Yes, biomechanical analysis is particularly valuable for addressing recurring injuries. Many persistent injuries in endurance athletes stem from suboptimal movement patterns that place excessive stress on certain tissues. Our analysis can identify these problematic patterns and provide targeted corrections. While we work closely with physiotherapists and sports medicine doctors, our analysis focuses specifically on the technical aspects of your sport movements rather than clinical diagnosis. For best results, we recommend combining our biomechanical approach with appropriate medical care for existing injuries.

  • For most athletes, we recommend an initial comprehensive analysis followed by a follow-up session after 2-3 months to assess progress and refine technique further. After that, annual check-ups are typically sufficient unless you experience changes in your movement (due to injury, significant weight change, or new equipment). If you're working through significant technique changes or rehabilitating from injury, more frequent analysis (every 4-6 weeks) may be beneficial during that period.
